A new Regulation from the European Commission has been published which amends Annexes II, III, V and VI to Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 on cosmetic products.
Commission Regulation (EU) No 344/2013 recognises the advances in science since the publication of the original annexes, and consequently lists all substances used in cosmetic products which may be injurious to human health, and indicates the maximum permitted levels for these and the labelling requirements for packaging of products containing them.
The annexes are comprehensive and list the CAS numbers of the substances wherever these are available and agreed. It is of high importance that laboratories have valid measurement methods for these substances at the levels required for enforcement purposes.
