The European Chemicals Agency, ECHA, has reported that 2923 new substances were registered with them by the 31 May deadline for chemicals manufactured or imported in quantities from 100 to 1 000 tonnes per year.

This brings the total number of substances to be registered since REACH was introduced in 2008 to 6598.

The final registration deadline under the REACH legislation is for chemicals manufactured or imported in quantities between 1 and 100 tonnes per year, on 31 May 2018.

However, only 4 of these registrations were for nano subtances, which is surprising conisdering the significant advances in nanotechnology over the last few years.
