The following list shows standards and technical documents published by the European Standardisation Organisation, CEN, during September 2013, some of which are relevant to chemical measurement in support of regulation.

These are all from the petroleum sector this month:

EN 590:2013 – Automotive fuels: Diesel – Requirements and test methods

EN 15779:2009 plus A1:2013 – Petroleum products and fat and oil derivates: Fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) for diesel engines – Determination of polyunsaturated (≥4 double bonds) fatty acid methyl esters (PUFA) by gas chromatography

CEN/TR 16557:2013 – Automotive fuels: High FAME diesel fuel blends (B11 – B30) – Background to the parameters required and their respective limits and determination

The above deal with the increasing prevalence of “biodiesels” in automotive fuels and the need to measure them effectively, something the food sector have been doing successfully for many years.
